Title

Ally Development Journal #2

Subject

An identity reflection for my Allies and Activists class.

Description

In order to be an ally to people with identities different from your own, it is necessary to be aware of your own social identities (such as abilities, race, ethnicity, social class, gender, sexual orientation, and religion) and the ways in which your social identities are privileged and oppressed. Therefore, for this assignment please write an essay in which you explore your own social identities. Which of your identities are privileged? Which are oppressed? In what ways do your identities intersect with each other? How do those intersections affect the privilege/oppression associated with your identities? Which of your identities are most central to who you are as a person; which less so? Why do you think that is? Although you do not need to explore all of your social identities, please be sure to reflect on your (dis)ability identity as one of the identities you explore in your reflection.
