About It All

Hello, my name is Katie Norton.  This exhibit is my final project here at Miami University before embarking on my walk across the stage to get my diploma.

I chose to take my exhibit in a very unique route.  The predominate reasoning for me doing this piece is to highlight the gap between feminist definitions in the dictionary and what is being labeled as everyday acts of feminism. One of the key messages I have used as a driving source is  the definition of feminism :“the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes”.  When deciphering this definition, I found that only a select amount of individuals were aware of the true definition of feminism. With my project, I hope to bring a light to this thought process and indicate the purity of true belief in the advancement of equality.

There are constant stigmas behind what this lifestyle choice entails, including but not limited to: We are all queer, We are all Hilary supporters, We are all man haters and so on.   Thus the question I have chosen to try and address is “What does feminism mean to me?” and “What CAN feminism mean to you?”
